CITY SPOTLIGHT
Headed to the Olympics
When the Summer Games return to Los Angeles in 2028, two Olympic sports will actually be decided right here in Oklahoma City.

September 2026

The 2028 Summer Olympics are officially a Los Angeles Games, but not every event will be held in Southern California. In March 2025, the LA28 organizing committee confirmed that Oklahoma City will host two Olympic sports: canoe slalom and softball.
Whitewater at Riversport OKC
Canoe slalom will be contested at Riversport OKC, the whitewater rafting and kayaking venue on the Oklahoma River just south of downtown. Its man-made whitewater course already hosts national and international paddling competitions and U.S. Olympic team training—one reason organizers pointed to Oklahoma City’s “existing world-class venues” when making the selection.
Softball at Devon Park
Softball will be played at Devon Park, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers and a longtime host of major amateur and collegiate championships. Both venues were chosen in part because they were already built and already proven, letting the Games plug into facilities Oklahoma City has spent years developing rather than building new ones from scratch.
For a city whose Olympic ambitions used to mean watching the Games from home, hosting two sports on the world’s biggest athletic stage is a genuine landmark—and a preview of the international spotlight Oklahoma City can expect to be under in 2028.
